If you attended the Homecoming Pep Assembly, you heard a new statement. You probably thought the announcer made a mistake in reading the script. Well, you were wrong. At a meeting of top Homecoming officials, it was decided to make the singing of the Alma Mater a pep assembly tradition.
This decision was made on the basis that most other schools have both a Pep Song and the Alma Mater and both are used. Another reason for the assembly addition was that this year Maine township is celebrating its seventy‑fifth anniversary. Bringing the Alma Mater into regular use would be a salute to the anniversary.
Pep Club members were issued the words to the Alma Mater, and the band now has the music. If you don't know the words, here they are. Let's hear everybody singing at the next assembly!
MAINE WEST ALMA MATER
O Hail to thee Maine West
Whose halls we will not forget.
We'll cherish the mem'ries
The hopes and the friends we've met.
O sing of its praises and of the days
We spent building mind and might
Dear Maine Alma Mater
we'll stand strong forever
Here's to the Blue, Gold, and White.
