Warriors End Season,
Lose To Maine East
The Maine West Warriors ended their season on Nov. 4 with a 13-8 loss to rival Maine East. Maine East who ended their season undefeated (9-0) was stunned by a stubborn Warrior team.

Maine East, who had great field position the entire first half, recovered the opening kickoff and drove to the Warrior 8‑yard line before being stopped four successive plays halting the Demon drive. Maine East scored first in the second quarter after a Warrior punt. They marched 40 yards and scored on a 12‑yard run. Early in the second quarter the Warriors lost another running back Dave Jackson who was injured and taken from the game.

Gary Crossland came into the game and rushed for 105 yards. Bob Aslan, the other Warrior back, was injured weeks earlier and was replaced by Kent Wantroba. Vince Webster remained the only Warrior starter in the backfield. Maine East scored again in the third quarter. West scored late in the game set up by a good Warrior drive, as Gary Crossland plunged in from the three. The Warriors added the two‑point conversion but with no timeouts left the Warriors were unable to mount a drive and ran out of time.
Outstanding performances for West were turned in by Marty Oehlerking, Wantroba, and Crossland.

The sophomores could not fare better as they lost 24-12, but with Niles West losing on Saturday they ended up in a 4-way tie for first place. The freshmen won by a score of 30-7 as they went undefeated and clinched first place.

On Oct. 29 the Maine West Warriors lost to the other rival Maine South 20-0. In this game like the others, their opposition had good field position the entire game which eventually led to all 20 Maine South points.

The sophomores won by a score of 21-12; the freshman also were winners.

The varsity ended their season with a record of 2-7, overall and 1-5 in conference while the sophomores were 6-3 overall and 4-2 in conference. The freshman were 8-0 overall and 6-0 in conference.
