Mr. Mills Named 'Coach of the Year'
Mr. Ronald Mills, speech and drama coordinator at Maine West, has been named "Coach of the Year" for his work as head of the Maine West Speech Team.

Mills received the award at an invitational speech tournament at Northeastern Illinois University. The tournament featured individual speech events and also events in radio speaking.

Northeastern Illinois University holds a speech tournament each year. Besides the individual and team sweepstakes awards, the special title of "Coach of the Year" is presented. All the coaches from the opposing schools elect one of them for possessing outstanding coaching qualities.

Mr. Mills commented, "It's very satisfying to have my peers and other coaches recognize me as doing work worthy of an award."

Aside from coaching the Speech Team with Ms. Marianne Guyon, Mr. Mills also coaches the Debate Team, directs the Reader's Theater and the winter play, and directs the contest play.
Mr. Mills is popular with his students, as a speech team member explains. "Besides being an excellent teacher, Mr. Mills has the ability to inspire the team. He can make the Speech Team perform even better than they thought they could."
