Alumnus Supports MW Basketball
Fans play a great part in the success or failure of a team. one fan, Nick Ladas, has been a die hard Maine West supporter for many years.
It would take a long time to find someone who has attended more Maine West basketball games than Nick. Although his means of transportation is only a bicycle, the weather has never gotten in his way. It doesn't matter how much snow is on the ground or how cold it is, a Maine West game is top priority to Nick.
Coach Gaston Freeman said, "Nick is an outstanding fan and a great help. He is always willing to give a hand, and he's very enjoyable to be around." The players really appreciate Nick's loyalty and showed it when they gave him a letterman's sweater as a gift. It's dedicated fans like Nick that really help a team play up to their fullest potential.
Nick attended Maine West in the early sixties. During this time he was not only a manager for the basketball team, but he was active in other school activities also. He was a member of the M-Club and the Brotherhood Society.
Students showing friendliness and brotherhood to all and promoting good will are eligible for the Brotherhood Society. Nick was voted into the Brotherhood Society, and he fits the definition perfectly. Not only did Nick promote goodwill, but his actions always displayed outstanding sportsmanship.
Nick puts in a lot of hours at his job, and it's been 15 years since he went to Maine West as a student. Yet he's still at every basketball game he can possibly make. When a school has as many alumni as this school does and only one of them is totally dedicated, it's obvious that that person is a tremendous fan.
Next time there is a basketball game at home it won't be hard to find Nick Ladas. Just look towards the Maine West bench, and there will be the best fan a team could ever have.
