Ski Club Arranges Trip to Colorado
BY STEVE VONDRAK

The time has come when ski buffs everywhere pull their skis out of musty closets and go up to the nearby mountains and ski resorts for an evening or weekend of skiing. If one has never skied before and would like to try, Maine West offers Ski Club.

There are about 190 students involved in this club. The sponsors are Mr. Wayne Ambrose, Mr. Roger Osborne, and Mr. Anton Soucek. The whole idea behind Ski Club is to provide means to go skiing and to provide the opportunity for beginners to learn.

Ski Club takes weekly trips to the nearby ski resorts, Alpine and Wilmot, which have hills to accommodate both the beginner and the more experienced skiers. There are also trips twice a year to Devils Head, an excellent resort in Wisconsin. This year the club is also sponsoring a trip to Colorado for one week; the cost of the trip will be $320.
Mr. Ambrose said, "My purpose in Ski Club is to get everybody to try and enjoy the sport of skiing." If one is interested in Ski Club, meetings are held every Thursday morning in R-209; there are good ski movies and instruction at the meetings. All that is needed to join is a permission form, $5, and a will to learn how to ski.

Trip schedules and permission forms are available in the Driver Education rooms. If you have never skied before, Mr. Ambrose, Mr. Osborne, and Mr. Soucek offer free lessons on the trips.

Skiing is a fun and challenging sport that everyone should try at least once. Ski Club offers the opportunity for that first time. Remember, think snow!
