Additions Detour Routes to Classes
BY KEVIN BUSCH
"Attention: the doors at the end of E‑wing are being locked until further notice due to the construction." Those are famous words or at least words that should ring a bell.
In fact, the man who said those words does ring bells here at Maine West. That man is Mr. Eldon Burk, assistant principal. Those words aren't all that old. Remember last year when they started tearing apart our favorite high school?
The rotunda behind the auditorium was blocked off with sheets of plywood, giving Maine West the appearance of one of those fine inner-city schools. And, when that wrecker's ball wiped out the back wall to our favorite room, S-201, this gave Maine West a World War II appearance - rubble lying around and shattered glass, so like Paris circa 1942. Now the major portion of the construction is finished.
However, this wasn't the first time construction has tied things up here at Maine West, so, for more information on the subject, I talked to Mr. Burk and asked him, "What other times has construction caused confusion here at West?" he replied, "None, but things were boarded up during the time E-wing was being added on and also when the LRC was added." He also noted that when E-wing was being added on, the top floor of the rotunda was closed. Other additions to Maine West were the metal and automotive shops.
So it looks like the underclassmen, especially the Class of '81, will be deprived the privilege of being detoured enroute to class.
