New Year Brings Graduates
Once again another new year is upon us. Two weeks from now we can call let out a sigh of relief for those never‑ending semester finals will be finished. The freshmen will have experienced their first taste of one and one‑half hour long tests. Also many seniors will take them for the last time, that is, as far as high school goes.

That fraction of seniors will be graduating early. Many of these seniors will start working full time or will begin college early. On the other hand, many will be sitting around all day and doing nothing. Sure, it is nice to have a lot of free time on your hands. But, all these graduates don't realize what they are actually missing by graduating in January instead of June.
The last half of the senior year holds the most memories and traditional activities. Senior Week, late arrival day, the Honors Assembly, and yes, even graduation practice are the days one looks forward to the entire four years of high school. Sure, some want to start college early; but they can take some classes that they never had the chance to take before.

It is understandable that some kids want to work in order to pay for their college costs, but to the others it would be more beneficial to graduate in June. So many want to be what they call "released" from school. If they only took one more look. To those who are graduating in January the Westerner staff does wish all the luck and success in the future.
