January Grads
You Wouldn't Believe What You're Missing
BY JERRY WOLOWICZ

The idea of graduating early may appeal to a lot of people. Yet, if you think about all the things you would be missing by graduating in January, you might change your mind.

First of all, just the thought of missing getting up early in the morning to go stand on a corner in below zero weather to wait for a bus is disturbing. After your flesh has frozen, the bus finally comes; and you climb aboard with 50 other students. Suddenly your body temperature goes from way below zero to about 80 above. Let's face it; this is one of the highlights of the day.

Next on the schedule comes homeroom. In this overly exciting period you are able to hear the daily bulletin. After these very important messages are out of the way, you can almost bet that Mr. Burk, chief of making public announcements, will bring us more school news. His two major topics are which wing exit will be closed and homeroom will be extended because of late buses.
After homeroom is over, the real fun just starts to happen: homework assignments due, major tests, and more homework assignments. The only thing that may save you is a fire drill. A fire drill, one student‑not prepared for his test‑thinks. Down goes the lever, and everyone taking tests is saved.

Once the school day is finally over it's time to go home. The same thing happens to you that happened in the morning. The weather is cold; the bus is extremely hot. You end up with pneumonia.

Now that all the pros and cons of early graduation are right before you, the idea may not be so great.
