Sanitarian Discusses Food Care
The food occupations class has been very active lately.

On Dec. 7 the food occupations class had the chief Des Plaines sanitarian, Mr. Mark MacIntosh, come and speak to their class. The topic that was discussed centered on the routine health inspection of a restaurant. Various tips on cleanliness and storage and handling of food were also discussed as well as important violations related to the spread of food borne illness.
The unit on sanitation is an important part of the food occupations curriculum. A recent Illinois law, effective July 1, 1978, requires that each food service establishment must be under operational supervision of a managerial person who has been certified by the Illinois department of public health. The candidate must pass an examination that demonstrates his knowledge in food service sanitation.

Those food occupation students receiving 80 per cent and higher on the exam were awarded certificates of merit. They were Shawn Beardsley '78, Carol Cacioppo '78, Terry Bode '78, Sue Bodett '78, Tom Dinwiddie '78, Bob O'Boyle '79, Sandy Seidel '78, Renee Tribolet '78, and Al Young '78.
