WMTH Rates As Good Station
BY JERRY WOLOWICZ
Many very good activities are provided here at Maine West. Working in the radio station, WMTH, however, is one of the most beneficial to students interested in communications.
Mr. Darryl Schultz deserves a lot of recognition for his outstanding work and achievement with the station here at Maine West. Not all high schools have a radio station; and out of all the ones that do, many aren't as well run as the one at Maine.
First of all, there is introduction to broadcasting. In this class, the student becomes familiar with all the equipment and the basic vocabulary used in broadcasting. This is only a half semester course. Then, the student has the option of filling out the year with either radio or television production. These two courses are a more advanced study of radio and television, respectively.
After the student has taken the first semester course, introduction to broadcasting, actual radio assignments are given. Five‑minute newscasts, five-minute sports highlights, and pre‑game shows are just some of the productions at Maine West. Other students who are interested in sports can try their hand at play by play action of Warrior baseball, basketball, and football games.
Some students probably don't even know that Maine West had a radio station. The four Maine Township High Schools combine together to produce a well‑rounded, balanced F.M. station. Each school has its own time that it is on the air each week. Each school has its own station manager also; Maine West is very fortunate to have Mr. Schultz as their station manager.
So when you're sitting around listening to the radio sometime, tune into WMTH, 88.5 on your F.M. dial. It really is a good station.
