VOL. XIX, NO. 7
Have you ever wondered who sponsors such events as the V‑Show, Christmas Formal, and the Girl's Choice Dance? The answer is the Student Council.
But Student Council doesn't just sponsor activities: they have other functions.
One very important thing they do is the exchange program. This year's exchange students are Desiree Wiegleb from Sweden and Scott Cazet from California.
The Student Council is also involved in the Quad Council meeting. This meeting is held once a month at one of the four Maine high schools. Each of the four schools sends a representative from its Student Council to discuss common problems such as open campus. Ellen Christ, president, says, "The four schools are working hard surveying the interest in open campus."
One of the most recent Student Council activities was Secret Admirer's Day. The next event that Student Council is sponsoring is the Girl's Choice Dance on Mar. 2. Erica Rems says, "It should be a good dance. We've got top musicians hired plus we might have another band on the side to play during intermission. There will be a good turnout because girls have more guts than guys do."
Elections for officers will be held on Apr. 27 and 28. They start auditioning on Apr. 4. The present officers are Ellen Christ, president; Bill Hanselmann, vice‑president; Erica Rems, secretary; and Dan Monreal, treasurer.
The sponsors of the Student Council are Mr. Erv Geisler and Mrs. Gail Macdonald. This is the first year that Mrs. Macdonald has worked with the Student Council. She says, "It's been fun working with the students." Mr. Geisler added, "It's been a fulfilling year."
One of the most successful fund raising activities was the Penny Drive. Ellen Christ says, "We'd like to thank everyone who contributed to the Penny Drive. Close to $400 was raised when in the past years we've only gotten $25."
