Cagers Strengthen Record
The varsity basketball team kept up their pace in past games by defeating Niles West, 69-45, and Glenbrook North, 67-51. These two victories extended their CSL conference record to 7-1 and an overall record of 17-4.

With the Warriors ahead 40-18 at half time, Niles West might have been better off going back to Niles. Tim Logisz scored 23 points and had five assists while Mike English added 12 points with 11 rebounds. Mike Clark also had five assists. With Maine letting off some of the pressure in the second half, Niles turned the 40-18 romp into a respectable 69-45.

Glenbrook South jumped to a 12-8 first quarter lead; but with a tough defense and an explosive offense, West dropped 11 straight points from turnovers and good shooting. After English put up a two-point rebound, Logisz was fouled at half court, and English had two more points. Glenbrook North continued to make mistakes trying to penetrate the Warrior defense, and by the half Maine West was out in front, 31-20. Maine West has continuously played tough second quarter ball this year and against the Spartans were no exception.

Through the final half, Clark and Logisz displayed their quickness while English shot with wreckless abandon. When it was over, English had 22 points and 16 rebounds while Logisz and Clark added 26 total points for a 67-51 Warrior victory.
The Warriors faced the Lake Park Lancers just one day after the worst blizzard in the Chicago area since 1967. Maine got off to a slow start dropping behind 4-0 in the early moments of the contest, but by the end of the first quarter West was ahead, 14-10. Logisz dropped 16 second quarter points to put the Warriors ahead at the half, 36-16. Logisz ended up with a game high 30 points and led Maine West to a 67-40 victory.

Maine West (9-1) will face rivals Maine South (10-0) tonight in what could be one of the Central Suburban League's most exciting and emotional games this year. In the previous conference match the

Hawks won in a close fought battle, 68-65. It took good free-throw shooting in the closing seconds to achieve victory, and tonight history could repeat itself. If West can keep South from controlling the boards, Coach Gaston Freeman thinks the Warriors will be well in reach of defeating their cross-town opponents. Coach Freeman continued "the Maine West-Maine South rivalry has been a healthy one for the student body of both schools."
