On the 98-pound level Rick Spencer was 1-2 and finished in sixth place. At 105 pounds Dan Wartalski scored two pins but lost the battle for second place finishing in third. At 112 pounds top seeded Diego Montes defeated all three of his opponents (two pins and a superior decision) in taking first place. Jerry Chvatal wrestled at 126 pounds and won one match while losing two. Chvatal's one loss came to the eventual champion Hernandez (Maine East 30-0). On the 132-pound level Steve Fang lost twice and finished in a tie for sixth place. On the 138-pound level Don Arrigo surprised top seeded Rick Pluta (1-0) and won his other two matches for the first place title. At 145 pounds Kevin Gray went 2-2, his two losses coming to the eventual first and second place finishers.

At the heavyweight level Dave Cavazos won his first match by pin then faced Guy Boliaux of Maine East. These two were to meet a week earlier for the conference meet for first place. Boliaux was not in attendance and this prolonged their meeting. The match was close and in the end Cavazos was the victor 5-3 taking first place in the districts.
Arrigo, Cavazos, and Montes will advance to the sectionals tonight at West Leyden at 7 p.m. Dan Wartalski and Kevin Gray will serve as alternates.
The varsity ended up in second place in the conference behind Maine East with a 9-6 overall record and 4-2 in conference. The junior varsity and sophomores finished in first place each having 10-4 overall records and 5-1 in conference. The freshmen were 9-3 overall and 5-1 in conference taking first place.
The most memorable moments in wrestling this year were the freshman team's incredible 69-0 victory over Oak Park; Cavazos as outstanding wrestler at the Lake Park tourney. Suarez's match victory over Maine South as the Warriors made it a clean sweep on all four levels, and Montez's, Arrigos', and Cavazos' first place district championships.
