Gymnasts End Season
The Maine West varsity gymnastics team ended its season at the conference meet Feb. 4, coming in sixth place out of seven teams. The varsity musclemen scored a 77.99 at conference, with Jamie Rosner working all around and scoring a 5.4 in floor exercise. Other top scorers were Ed Williams with a 5.7 on high bar, Eric Lundquist with a 5.7 on rings, and Jeff Ciezskowski a 6.6 on vaulting.

The sophomore conference was held on Jan. 28. The team scored 73.6, placing them fourth out of seven teams. Greg Coburn worked all around and placed second in tumbling and sixth in vaulting. He also placed second in the all‑around competition. Other sophomore gymnasts that placed were Leif Lundquist, sixth on high bar, and Tim Harris, third in tumbling. The freshmen ended their season Jan. 27, winning against Maine North with a score of 62. The all‑around man for the freshman team is Mike Stein, his highest average is a 3.8. The freshmen musclemen hit a high score of 69, and the sophomores high score was a 79.
 In the last two home meets of the season the varsity was defeated by Maine South, 76.30 to 87. On Jan. 27 the varsity was defeated by Maine North, the Warriors scoring a 77. High scorers for this meet were Jamie Rosner, scoring a 5.85 in floor exercise and a 6.95 in vaulting. The sophomores beat Maine North, 67 to 46.

The varsity team suffered the temporary loss of team member, Greg Bosco. He apparently injured his head while working the high bar at Maine East.

The IHSA state finals will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17 and 18.
