Winter Has Taken Over
For the past few weeks Maine West along with many other area high schools have suffered through a period of low student attendance. This low attendance rate was due to illness including the famous "Russian Flu." Approximately 30 per cent of Maine West's students were absent on a given day two weeks ago. Hopefully, we have all experienced all we can take and that we are on the road to better times.
During the next few weeks students will experience the yearly arrival of that dreaded disease, spring fever. Spring fever brings many symptoms, especially student daydreams of sunny beaches during classes.
To our advantage we have a week of vacation to recover. Every year the third quarter is referred to as the famous "third quarter slump." This year it is important for everyone to avoid getting into this slump. Unfortunately for many, a third quarter slump only turns into a fourth quarter slump. It might be a good idea for all of us to try something new like dancing or jogging. We need to help each other to overcome our post winter blues. Let's start planning for a great end of the school year and put aside our winter blues.
