Cagers Complete Season
The Maine West Warriors ended their season on Feb. 24, losing to Maine East, 87-67. Maine West ended their regular season 9-3 in conference and 19-6 overall (second best in school history).

In the first quarter Maine East got off to a fast start taking a 20-14 lead. The second quarter saw Maine West chip away at the lead until a spurt of eight straight points by Bob Webber. Mike English and Tim Logisz's scoring in the second quarter kept the game within reach.

The third quarter started off where the first two left off. Both teams had to make several substitutions due to the foul trouble, and the hot free‑throw shooting of Maine East put their lead in double figures. Maine West made several comeback tries but all in vain as many crucial calls did not go West's way. In the end the Warriors had 67 points and 31 fouls as Clark and English fouled out and four other Warriors finished with four fouls. Logisz scored 22 points and English added 16.

The sophomores ended their season on a more positive note beating Maine East, 63-56. Heiden, Lindeman, Stortz, and O'Brien led the way for the Warriors. The sophomores finished 11-1 in conference for first place and 15-5 overall.
On Feb. 17 the Warriors lost a chance for a first place tie with Maine South, losing to the Hawks, 61-53. Before a standing room only crowd Rick Dsida's tip-in of a missed shot gave the Warriors an early lead. Maine South scored six straight points and built a solid lead before Logisz's three-points lead tied it at 11.

The Hawks grabbed the lead which seemed for good, but Jeff Baker's attempted slam dunk backfired. The missed shot gave the Warriors momentum as they outscored South, 9-2, for a 24-24 tie at half.

The second half started out as the Mike English show scoring the first eight Warrior points as Maine South held a slim one‑pointlead. Maine South then tool control of the game as their fast break and ability to break the Warriors' press gave them an insurmountable lead. The Warriors pulled within three several time, but clutch free‑throw shooting by the Hawks stopped any serious attempts. The Warriors were led by Logisz's 17 points, and English added 15.

The sophomores were victorious, winning by four points as good freethrow shooting toward the end of the game stopped South from a comeback victory. Leading scorers for the Warriors were Carlini and Heiden.

The Class AA Basketball Tournament started last week with the Regionals at Maine West with teams from Maine West and North, Elk Grove, and Prospect competing. Last year the Warriors defeated Maine North and then lost the Elk Grove for the championship, 56-53, in overtime.
