Track Team Shows Strength
The varsity track team lost their first dual meet of the season last Tuesday to York.
In the meet the Warriors weren't hurt by the power of York but by the flu that hit Maine West last week. Scores of the meet were not available at this time.
Against Hinsdale Central the Warriors were victorious. Bob Aslan won the 50‑yard dash; Pete Baksa the high jump; Kevin Martin the long jump; Bob Haga the triple jump; and Chet Phillips the pole vault.
Against Wheeling and Hoffman Estates the Warriors were also victorious, beating both teams. Kevin Martin turned in two first place finished, winning long jump and the 880‑yard dash. Other winners were Jukka Kallio in the two‑mile run, Tim Monohan in the pole vault, Simon Shum in the 50‑yard dash, and Dennis Ostrowski in the 60‑yard low hurdles.
Against Loyola of Wilmette the Warriors also won, by the score of 63 to 58. Some of the winners in that meet were Bob Haga in the triple jump, Chet Phillips in the pole vault, Dennis Ostrowski in the 440-yard dash, Bob Aslan in the 50-yard dash, and Kevin Martin in the long jump. The Warriors now hold a 5-1 overall record.
The sophomores also hold a 5-1 overall record, their only loss came against Loyola last week. The sophomores also tied the strong York team, 61-61.
The freshman team also holds a 5-1 record; their only loss came against York. The freshman team also beat Loyola, Wheeling, Hoffman Estates, and Hinsdale Central.
The Warrior's recent meet was a rematch against Hoffman Estates last Wednesday at Maine South. In this meet all levels competed.
