VOL. XIX, NO. 9
MARCH 23, 1978
Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor:
Two young fans sadly left the Maine West spectator gym on Mar. 3. Their heroes, the Warriors, would not play again this year. Disappointment was on their faces and in their voices as they asked, "Is Elk Grove really that good, Dad?" and "What if we had two more minutes?"

Ever since they saw their first game at Prospect High School Thanksgiving weekend, these two fans have been ardent supporters of Maine West's team. They've cheered at most home games, eaten pop‑corn at half time, watched the Maine South Hawks win the heartbreaker in the packed gym last month, loved the Pep Band, sat stunned as Maine East's Demons stole the show that Friday night, but they never gave up hope. And we did come back to beat Maine North the next Tuesday.

Basketball practice at home was punctuated with "Basket by Logisz" and "Rebound by English." Karabas, Czarnecki, Clark, and Coach Freeman remained their idols Tuesday and Friday evenings and throughout the rest of the week. When the 1977-78 season is just a memory for many, the sportsmanship and dedication our boys learned will be alive. Right now, they're saving their small cardboard lettered sign, "West Is Best," and their pep buttons for next year. Hope does spring eternal in the hearts of young fans.

Thank you, Coach Freeman; thank you, Warriors; and thank you, Maine West. We just wanted you to know. It was a great year.

Mrs. Harriet Johnson Naden
Dear Editor:
I would just like to comment on the article put in a recent issue of the Westerner pertaining to M‑Club and West Women. I was very disappointed in the false information about WW Club supplied in that article. I would like to correct that information for the benefit of the readers. First, our club is not only open to varsity team members who have earned a letter. We are open to any girl participating on a team during the school year. W. W. Club has also decided against taking the trip to Alpine Valley with Ski Club because of conflicting schedules. Our club meetings are not held on Fridays at 7:45 a.m. We do not have weekly meetings, so our members are notified prior to the date of the meeting. The last error in the article was the sponsor that was listed. Our sponsors are Ms. Tipton and Ms. Bauman, not Ms. Kenyon.

I feel that articles that appear in the paper like this one bring the quality of the paper down. I hope that in the future more of an effort will be made to collect the correct information.
