O.C.C. Competes at State Level
The Office Occupations Club had 10 members participating in the Office Education Association state competition on Saturday, Mar. 11.
The competition was held at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Only the girls who had high standings in the recent area competition were eligible to go down state.
The girls who attended were Gina Catalano '78 in Accounting I; Joanna Gutowski '78 in Typing, Steno II, and Job Interview II; Terri Heraty '78 in Information Communications II; Ronnie Prosser '78 in Typing II; Debbie Teevans '78 in Steno II; Tandy Thomas '78 in Data Processing‑Keypunch; Jane Wagner '78 in Accounting II; Sharon Walsh '78 in Receptionist; and Carola Weis '78 in Steno II.
The purpose of the competition is to demonstrate the use of various office skills gained throughout the year. Participants who place first or second in the state competition will go on to national competition in Detroit, Michigan, at the end of April.
Joanna Gutowski '78, a three time area winner, placing first in Typing I, Steno II, and Job Interview II, felt that, "It is not only the competition that is important but the experience of meeting new people as well." Many of the girls feel that the competition is very helpful in getting a good secretarial position later on in life.
Mr. William Breitzke has been very pleased that so many students were able to participate in the state competition. He also feels that Joanna, as well as the other girls, has done an excellent job in his class, on the job, and in competition this year.
