Harriers Do Well at East
The conclusion of the boys' indoor track season was the Central Suburban Indoor Meet. It was held at Maine East on Mar. 18.

Some of the tougher competitors in the meet were Maine East and Maine South.

On Friday, Mar. 10, the Warriors competed against Palatine. It was a tough meet; but the varsity team defeated Palatine, 68-55. The freshmen were also victorious, 90-28; but the sophomores were defeated, 49-69.

Mike Unger placed first in the 50-yard high hurdles; Bob Aslan, first in the 50-yard dash; and Jon Keith, first in the 880-yard run. The 880-yard relay team, consisting of Dennis Ostrowski, Ralph Jacobson, Tim Monahan, and Bob Aslan, also won.

As of this meet the varsity and freshmen had a record of eight wins and only one loss. The sophomores had a record of 7‑2.

On Friday, Mar. 3, Maine West traveled to the Evanston Relays. At Evanston they placed fourth out of 12 teams. Some of the teams which competed were highly rated Evanston, Deerfield, and Bloom.

Outstanding performances were turned in by Chet Phillips, second in the pole vault, and Tim Monohan, third in the pole vault.
The four-lap relay team of Bob Aslan, Dennis Ostrowski, Simon Shum, and Tim Monahan placed fourth. The mile relay team with Kevin Martin, Dennis Ostrowski, Simon Shum, and Tim Monohan also placed fourth.

The sophomores placed sixth out of 12 teams. Bob Fisher took second place in the mile and fourth place in the two‑mile. Also Mario Delafeld placed second in the pole vault; Todd Wielgos fifth in the high jump. The mile relay placed fifth, and the four‑lap relay placed fourth.

On the freshman level Maine West placed fourth out of 12 teams. Tim Harris received fifth place in the pole vault. Tom Beckanhaur placed third in the low hurdles and fourth in the four‑lap relay.

Other members of the relay team were Kevin Clifford, Mike Miller, and Gerry Kleiner. This same relay team also placed fourth in the mile relay. Mike Miller placed fifth in the low hurdles. Mike Bashem placed fifth in the shot put.

On Mar. 1 Maine West competed in a rematch against Hoffman Estates. All levels were victorious over Hoffman Estates. The varsity won 95-28; the sophomores won 66-54; and the freshmen won 100-17.

The next meet will be at Palatine on Saturday, Apr. 8, at 10 a.m. This will begin the outdoor track season. The team is looking forward to the outdoor season. Coach Ron Brown says, "It will be nice to get outdoors for the rest of the season."
