| Art Chick, senior, completed a five-week course this summer in journalism at the National high school institute of journalism at Northwestern university. The session was held from June 26 to July 30. At the conclusion of the institute, Art received a contemporary thought award. Commenting about his summer experi-ence, Art said, "During the five weeks that I was there, I enjoyed one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I hope that any student who is seriously interested in journalism will consider applying for the next summer's institute." |
Being news editor of the WESTERNER, Art has already started to put into use his experience gained from the institute. Approximately 105 students attended the journalism session from all over the country. All got intensive training in important phases of newspaper, magazine, and yearbook work. Reporting, editing, editorial writing, and advertising were presented. Since applicants are carefully screened and only a small percentage are selected for the institute, Art feels that he was very fortunate to be able to attend. He was also awarded a part scholarship because of his scholastic background. |
