| "My greatest thrill was going downstate last year with the Warrior track team," exclaimed Paul Eisenbacher, this week's Warrior of the West.. This speedy Maine West student is now a senior, has three varsity letters, and is working toward six by the end of this year. Paul has been out for track in his three previous years at Maine and is planning to compete again this year; in addition to this he is currently engaged in his third season of cross-country. As one of the two returning cross-country lettermen, Paul says, "We will have a very good chance to take conference in both cross-country and track!" Standing 5 feet, 8 inches, Paul sports a brown crew-cut, weighs 130 pounds, and has 'baby' brown eyes. He has hopes of going downstate again this year, and |
bettering the record that last year's mile relay showed in State competition. Although he enjoys both cross-country and track, Paul mentioned he likes running the quarter-mile best, a job he did for West's Interim Association track champions last year. This year's cross-country coach, Mr. William Barringer, and last year's track coach, Mr. John Minerick, both hold very high opinions of Paul, who plans to go on to be a teacher of physical education himself. Aside from the teaching career, Paul's one big ambition is to run for the United States in the 1964 Olympics. Paul plans to go to college at the end of his senior year, although he has not completely decided where. Right now he "leans" toward Illinois State Normal and a degree in physical education, and a teaching job afterward. |
