Magazine Sponsors Art Show |

| For the thirty-fourth year Scholastic Magazines, with the cooperation of art teachers in the nation, are sponsoring the Annual Art Awards to be presented and exhibited through March 4 at Wieboldt's store in Evanston. The North East Illinois region, which includes Maine West, sent in 2,700 pieces that were judged February 12. Seven hundred pieces were chosen to be displayed, and gold keys and certificates of merit were awarded. "From the key winning pieces, the judges chose 'blue ribbon' finalists which the regional sponsors will forward to New York to be judged for the National High School art |
exhibitions," related Mr. Robert Urasky, art teacher. "Maine was represented very well, and quite a few won gold keys and merit awards. We also had some 'blue-ribbon' winners. The official list hasn't been sent to us as yet, but our winning work will be shown for two weeks starting March 18," announced Mr. Richard Meyer, art teacher. Representing Maine West were students from Miss Bonita Melnick's, Mr. Meyer's, and Mr. Urasky's classes. |
