Crystal Ball Foretells of |
||||||||||
| by Ruth Gembicki You ask what the future holds in store for you? Let me consult my crystal ball or would you prefer tea leaves? Ah, yes, I see ...I see. I'm sorry, no tall dark stranger. But what is this? Some great moment in your life. Something exciting, full of adventure, of beauty. You will take a trip. No not one trip, several: Shanghi, London, New York, Moscow, they all are waiting for you. When? In March, perhaps. Yes, in March. The stars are right. Will you travel alone? Ah no, many people are going with you. I can't see how you are going. Would you hand me my bottle of Windex? These crystal bails get awfully dirty. M.m.m-, I guess it's not that. The reception is still bad. Maybe if I change to another channel. I see confusion, mass confu-sion, panic. There is a large stage, people on it, people shouting. I cannot hear what they are saying but I feel that I am not the only one who cannot hear. There is Margo Beck; she seems to be directing the chaos. With her is a tall, dark stranger! Yes, yes, a tall, dark stranger musically inclined. Maybe he's a gypsy violinist. Alas no, he's just musical director, Gerry Stanowicki. But there are others: Lois Jarl and Melody Pabst play some part in this confusion. Costume designers, I think. Now there is |
a voice, a loud voice. It is drowning out all others. What is it saying? It is saying, "Where are those set designs?" Linda Klug and Ruth Gembicki look worried. I'll have to ask you to stop breathing on the ball. It's hard enough as it is. I guess I'll just have to change to a 150 watt ball. And the group is growing larger. There is light, courtesy of Garry Rease, and sound by everyone but amplified by Jim McKee. Ah, but I cannot stand these mob scenes. They remind me of sardines or the Ed Sullivan show. Do you mind if I change the channel? Maybe we can catch the ending to that first vision. At least it wasn't as crowded. Here it is. You're still on that trip. But it's strange. You aren't going anywhere. Just sitting. No it's not an airplane or train or boat or magic carpet. Oops, there's interference from that other station. No I guess not. -It's getting louder and the haze is lifting. Ah, yes. March is a fortunate month for you. All signs point to an enjoyable trip abroad "Inside Out," some kind of show. V-show? Yes, that's it! See you, March 16, 17 or 18. I'm sorry I see no more, Mrs. Annen, but could I interest you in a slightly used Oeiga board? |
