VOL. II, NO. 10
March 3, 1961
Baseball Opens On March 30
Practice for the baseball squad started officially on Wednesday, February 27, under the guidance of head Varsity Coach Al Carstens. Forty-five hopeful junior and senior boys reported for the first practice or team meeting, but it is expected that the coaches will cut this number to 23 by the end of this week. This final number will remain reasonably stable throughout the year, because it furnishes enough players to always have fresh talent, but not too many to coach efficiently.

Returning lettermen are George Amundson, Doug Halpenny, Dan Humay, and Mike Rowlee.

Coach Carstens, in an early season interview remarked, "It is much too early to really say just where and how good our talent will be. But, I would say that the big question mark is in our pitching staff. The season will depend on our coming up with an adequate pitching staff."
