West Trackmen Upset Oak Park's Huskies
Oak Park felt the brunt of 'Maine West's track power as the Huskies were upset by the Warriors in a four-way meet at Oak Park Friday. West had 63 1/3 points, Dunbar of Chicago 28 points, and Proviso East of Maywood 19 1/3 points.
Interim League's Glenbrook will come to the Maine (East) fieldhouse tomorrow at 2 p.m. to challenge Maine West's Stateranked cindermen in dual competition. The varsity and sophomore thinclads will compete.
Warrior tracksters took four individual first in the Oak Park Dunbar-Proviso meet, and also tacked down two five-point first place relay wins.
Art Steele held two meet first placings in both the high jump and in the broad jump; Steele also gathered second in the pole vaulting. Lee Wolf took the quarter-mile for Maine, and Dennis Luzinski held the last win with a victory in the 60. yard low hurdles. Wolf also ran the last leg of West's eight-lap relay foursome, and Luzinski grabbed second in the high hurdles
and ran in the number one slot in the Warrior sprint relay team which held a win.
Other runners with Luzinski on the sprint relay squad were Auggie Milz, Chuck Weil, and Ron Albertson. Running before Wolf in the longer relay were Vic Oakley, Dave Madison, and Paul Eisenbacher.
West's best events point-wise' were the hurdles and the jumping along with the relay races. Following Luzinski's second in the highs, Ed Luzietti took a fourth and Dennis Buttner grabbed fifth. Luzietti also came through with a close third in the lows. Buttner jumped a three-way tie for the second slot in the high jumping, and Chuck Weber tied with two others for the fifth jumping spot. Erstwhile wrestler Ray Leonardson pulled down fourth in the broad jumping to augment Steele's first.
Warrior Ron Albertson was shoved back to third in a threeway photo finish in the 50-yard dash, and Ken McLaughlin heaved the shotput 50 feet, 10 1/4 inches, only to lose by one quarter of an inch in an Oak Park "stretch" measurement.
