| Included among Gail's many qualifications are an active membership in GAA, Girls' Club council, Student Council, class council, Theme Chairman for the Junior Prom, Inter-Club Council, junior leaders, and maintaining a B grade average for three years. However, a candidate should not be elected merely for past achievements but because of what she intends to do in her elected office. Although Gail feels the Student Council should better the relationship between the student body and the administration, she realizes the importance of a good relationship between the Council and the student body. She feels this can be done by having a better informed student, unbiased homeroom reports and more student participation in council projects. Through student exchange days, she plans to promote goodwill between Maine West and area schools. All of these points are worthy goals for Student Council, but to carry them out we must have leadership - and that leader is Gail Schellin. |
Bev Pawelko, candidate for Student Council secretary, has served as an off-council representative for one year. Bev has worked on the cub-staff of the Westerner, and she has been on class council for two years. She is also the publicity chairman of GAA and a junior leader. During the past three years she has maintained a B-plus average. As a member of the Public Relations committee this year, she has had many responsibilities. "Although I have only been on council one year, I feel I have gained a healthy knowledge of the purposes and functions of council to serve as your secretary," remarked Bev. "My sincere desire to hold this office is my most important, qualification. As secretary, I would try to incorporate new ideas, and I would do my best to increase unity and cooperation within our school." |
"Making the Student Council more efficient by activating the ideas of the whole student body for everyone's benefit," is Marilyn Manny's goal if she's elected Student Council secretary. A thorough knowledge of Student Council has come to Marilyn through two years' experience as a council member, being especially active on the Public Relations committee. Always ready to learn more about student government, Marilyn has served as a discussion leader at the Interim Student Council convention and the NE-NW District convention. She was chosen by the Student Council to be its representative at the National Conference of Student Councils at Estes Park, Colorado. Marilyn is active in the Junior class council where she has gained valuable experience while serving as secretary. She is also a member of Brotherhood society, Tri-Hi-Y, and a junior leader. In spite of her extra-curricular activities, Marilyn has been able to maintain a 3.6 grade average for three years. |
