Diamondmen Open With Evanston 9 |
||||||||||
| Working despite changing spring weather, West's baseball squad opens in less than a week. Evanston's Wildkits face Maine on the Kit's diamond on Thursday, March 30, in a 4:30 p.m. encounter. The contest is the opening game for both squads, and leads into a 16-game Warrior schedule. Four lettermen head the squad, in outfielder Geroge Amundsen '61, infielders Doug Halpenny '61, Danny Humay '63, and Mike Rowlee '61. Coach Carstens stressed, though, "that the big question mark is in our pitching staff." The schedule includes 10 In-terim League games, beginning with Prospect's Knights on April 11, following four nonleague |
warmups with Evanston, Elgin, Oak Park, and Niles. Three of the four are from the powerful Suburban League. Last season's opener with Evanston was rained out for the first time in township history that an opening baseball game had been postponed. Carsten's team closed their initial season last year with a 9-7-1 record. District baseball will be May 8,9, and 10, and winning squads will enter Regional play on May 15,16, and 17. The Sectionals will be held on May 26, and the State finals on June first and second. West's Interim games are with Prospect twice, East Leyden twice, Willowbrook, West Leyden, Glenbrook twice, Proviso West, and Wheaton. |
