WEST'SPORTS

By ED 'n AL

WARRIORS BILL DOWNING AND TOM JANSSENS were selected, by gymnastics coaches of the Interim League, to All Conference status just last week. Downing, who monopolizes tumbling activities on West's gymnastics team, was named to the first man in the honorable mention category. Only one boy in the conference was voted a better tumbler. Janssens received exactly the same position as Downing on the trampoline, first man honorable mention. Both boys are juniors and will be back with the Warriors next year.

CAGER MIKE ROWLEE WAS NAMED TO the IC's second team as a forward, two weeks ago. This honor climaxes a fine season by Rowlee. He was second in team scoring only to center
Bruce Shriver (Shriver just missed being picked to the All-Conference squad). Interim champ Prospect dominated the teams landing four boys on both squads. Wheaton had three contestants who made it, while Maine West, East Leyden, and Willowbrook, one apiece.

50 FAR THIS SEASON, MAINE WEST tracksters have broken or tied three fieldhouse records at Maine East, but Demon officials refuse to recognize them. Their excuse was that the records, even though having taken place in East's fieldhouse, couldn't count because Maine East wasn't a participant in the meet. Warrior Art Steele has broken the existing pole vault three times (12'11/4, 12'3, and 12'5), the old mark being 12'. Hurdler Dennis Luzinski has tied the record in the high hurdles several times, while West 's relay quartet of Paul Eisenbacher, Dave Madison, Vic Oakley, and Lee Wolf bettered the old mark of 3:38.3, by 2.4 seconds, with a time of 3:35.9.
