Tennis Team Opens Thurs.

West has 15 upperclassmen who are presently drilling for the first of 15 dual tennis meets, beginning with the defending State champion Evanston Wildkits next Thursday, March 30, in a 4 p.m. home encounter.

Three returning lettermen, Jim Edwards '61, who is the holder of the best Warrior varsity record last season with a 10-3 mark, Phil "The Whiz" Johnson '61, and Joe Menger '61, bolster the year's net squad. Also furnishing experience for the team will be four numeral winners in John Bernero '62, Joe Figard '62, who was last season's frosh-soph most valuable player,
Scott MacDonald '62, and Big Bill Sopper '62. Last year's varsity racquet squad won six and dropped seven dual encounters.

"I think our toughest conference meet will be against Glenbrook," asserted Coach Roy Kearns. The Warriors will participate in the District meet on Saturday, May 6, and the State finals will be held May 19 and 20.

West's netmen will climax their season with the Interim League conference tennis meet May 22 for the sophs, and May 23 for the varsity. League finals will be held May 25 at Willowbrook.
