Trackmen Drop 3 Visiting Teams

Hold 4th At Evanston


After breezing to three dual meet victories in as many weeks, Maine West's varsity trackmen took fourth place in the Evanston Relays last Friday.

The Warriors will be one of 64 teams competing tomorrow in the annual Oak Park Relays, and will face some of the most highly regarded teams in the state, including defending champion Moline.

Meeting 11 other teams in the Evanston meet, Maine West captured two first, both by Dennis Luzinski, and two seconds, in running up their 33 point total. Final team standings:

Against Glenbrook two weeks ago, the Warriors took all but three events, as they emerged 60 to 40 victors. Maine athletes shattered three individual records in the course of the meet. The former field house record in the mile relay fell a the Warrior squad competed with a time of 3:35.9. Art Steele bettered the pole vault record by soaring 12 feet 3 inches, and a new school mark was set in the shot put when Ken McLaughlin threw 51 feet 83/4 inches.
