Managers Deserve A Bit of Glory

by Bill Downing

Managers have it rough, and that's no lie. They never receive the glory and fame of Joe Athlete, and are always stuck with the dirty work.

A manager has many duties to perform, both in school and out of school. He must contact the team about practices, take care of the equipment and see that none of it is lost, misplaced, or possibly removed.

When asked about their most unpleasant duty, the most frequent reply seems to be cleaning the battle scarred shower room
with an unceasing number of damp, and this is using the term loosely, towels being flung into a pile near the wall or possibly nearer the manager.

Managers are blessed with an abundance of paper work and filing which occupies most of their time during regular practices. Keeping scores and points at conference meets and helping to organize home meets are just a few more duties of the team manager.

His reward for being a true friend to his teammates is usually a free shower, soap and all. The all 'stands for his shoes, socks, and other essentials of better living.
