Music Concert Climaxes This Year's Music Festivities |
||||||||||
| The second annual Spring Music festival will be presented tonight, May 19, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium by the Maine West Music department. All concert instrumental organizations and vocal groups will perform. A variety of musical compositions will be offered by the Concert band, under the direction of Mr. Robert Kuite, chairman of the department. Among them will be selections from the opera, "Lohengrin," by Wagner, and a special feature which is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, "Guest Conductor." "Our audiences have frequently heard the 'long-hair' styling which identifies our concert band, but this will be the first time they will hear a 'Spike Jones' treatment," said Mr. Kuite of "Guest Conductor." "The Flower Drum Song" and "The Dream of Scipione," by Mozart, will be among several of the selections which will be played by the Concert orchestra. Mrs. Mildred Heidorn will conduct. |
Under the direction of Mr. Jared Spears, the Show band will present a program of swing music. The highlight of this portion of the program will be the portrayal of a day in the life of a musician. Several numbers will be presented between each of the instrumental portions by the choral groups, under the direction of Mr. Wilbur Schaefer, director of vocal music. The A capella choir will sing the 23 Psalm. Mr. Jared Spears, a member of the music department, wrote the musical setting for this number. "This Train," a spiritual, will be sung by the Boys' chorus; the Girls' Glee club will sing "Gianina Mia;" and the Choraliers will sing "When Summer's Merry Days Come In." Original skits by students will be given as their interpretation of the music. Directing the skit is Mrs. Eleanor Annen of the drama department. Tickets will be on sale at the door. General admission is one dollar for adults and 50 cents for students. Also, student activity cards, faculty passes, and Music Booster cards will be honored. |
