Student May Tour Europe

Sophomore Lois Wright has been chosen to represent Maine West in the selection of students for a European tour during the summer of 1962. Lois has submitted a plan to the National Association of Student Councils which will choose the students for the tour. Approximately four people will be selected from Illinois.

The entire group will consist of about 64 students from all over the United States. They will leave Washington on July 10, and fly directly to London. Forty full days will be spent in England, Belgium, Holland, Western Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France.

On August 21, the group will board the plane at Paris and fly back to Washington.
The plan Lois has submitted for the pro motion of international understanding consists of (1) keeping a diary for the entire trip on her impressions of people, places and things, which will be used later for reference; (2) participating in discussions with the German and French clubs concerning the trip; (3) giving talks over WMTH; (4) writing newspaper articles in school and local papers; (5) collecting literature and taking pictures of the trip which will be put in a scrapbook to be on display in the school library; (6) forming a pen pal program between Maine West students and European students, and; (7) looking into an exchange program with a European high school.

"I certainly hope I am selected to represent our state and country through this tour," exclaimed Lois. "I know it will be a worthwhile experience."
