West Hosts Jr. Olympics |
||||||||||
| Maine West will again be the scene of the Des Plaines Junior Olympics games to be held May 29 and 31 and June 1, 2, 3, and 4, announced the Des Plaines park district recently. This is an opportunity for all students who live in the Des Plaines park district, attend a Des Plaines grade school, or attend Maine West, to compete in a recreation program consisting of events in track, swimming, gymnastics, and bicycle races. Any eligible boy or girl may enter two events in both track and swimming or enter a total of three events in all. There will be no restrictions for entrance in synchronized swimming or gymnastics as long as there is no schedule conflict. |
Medals will be awarded to all first place winners and to first place relay team members. Ribbons will be awarded to second and third place winners in individual events and the bicycle race. Participation certificates will be awarded to each boy and girl taking part in at least one event, and swimming and gymnastic entrants will receive AAU cards for future competition. To take part in the Junior Olympics, the participant must first obtain an application blank. The form must be signed by the student, by his or her physical education teacher, and by his or her parents, and then returned with a 50 cent entry fee to the park district office at Rand Park. |
