| By Al 'n Ed As of the present time, the future of more athletic facilities for Maine West (i.e., a field house) looks just a little dreary. Maine South, a new school to be built in Park Ridge upon passage of the proposed bond issue, will be honored with a field house. Maine West at the present time is not slated for any increased facilities. Presently Maine West football games must be held at the Maine East stadium; Maine West basketball games must be held at the Maine East field house; also the Warrior indoor track meets must be held at the Maine East field house. MAINE WEST IS the only school in the township unable to hold an all-school assembly. At most only two of Maine West's four classes can be accommodated at one time in the Maine West auditorium, and the situation will get worse, not better. |
Prospect's Knights were unhorsed by the West sophomore diamond squad a little over a week ago in a tight, one-run game, 7-6. Hurler Bob Pawlowski and the Westmen lead the league with a 5-0 Blue Division record. Next year's co-sports editors of the Westerner will be Larry Lashway and Bill "Big Swing" Sopper. Sopper can be remembered through his tennis exploits. STATE REGIONAL baseball play was held at Maine West this week starting with a contest Tuesday night; because of the State play at the Warrior diamond, Maine West had to enter competition with Glenbrook on the West Park diamond in Des Plaines. Intramural coordinator Miley Hotchkiss recently announced the IM softball and volleyball champions. The volleyball was taken on the frosh level by Coach Carsten's fourth period class, and on the sophomore slate by Coach Hotchkiss' fifth period class. Coach Olson's fourth period class took the junior level competition, and Coach Nyren's team from the eighth period took the senior play. |
