Warrior of the West

"We have a better chance of making a strong showing at State this year than any other school," says Ken McLaughlin, senior Warrior on West's track team.

Ken, who throws the shotput for West, took a third place at the Waukegan relays and a third at the Maine East relays. His biggest moment was on May 9 when he tossed the shot 54 feet 91/2 inches at Prospect to take a well deserved first place.

Track is Ken's favorite sport, although he
received his numerals in football as well as track in his sophomore year. This season he received enough points to earn his letter.

Hydro and monoplanes attract Ken's attention during the summer when he builds and races them. After boats, of course, come girls. "Maine East is a better school, as far as girls are concerned," says Ken.

Future plans for Ken are not to definite yet, but he hopes to attend Illinois Institute of Technology and major in math.
