Co-Valedictorians Speak At Graduation Exercises
Valedictorian honors go to James Edwards and Charles Weber for their scholastic achievement in the class of '61. Both tied in a photo finish. Each has been enrolled in four honors courses this year and has done outstanding work during his four years in the Maine high schools.
The classes of 1961-'62 met this morning at 9 am. to see the honor awards presented to outstanding students. Among those receiving department awards were Ruth Gembicki for art; Nancy Haydysch, business education; Tony Richter, English; Arlene Wagner, home economics; Richard Day, industrial arts; David Hopkins, language; Arliss Riedi, language; Lynn Buffo, mathematics; Gerald Stanowicki, music; Charles Riddell, boys' physical education; Barbara Manny, girls' physical education; Randall Baselt, science; Celeste Stachnik, social science.
Good Will Award
Twelve received the Good Will awards. The girls were Karen Barrett, Margaret Beck, Sandra Haarvig, Ann Kulik, Barbara Manny, and Norma Turner. Boys' awards went to Andrew Adolfson, James Brennan, John Hanck, Dennis Jordan, Bruce Schellin, and Dan Wiberg.
In most cases the department awards come from the student first being nominated for the honor from the senior homeroom advisors. The faculty makes the final selection on the basis of excellence in scholarship, leadership, and outstanding qualities of dependability, integrity, initiative, and creativity.
