SC Looks Back Over Great Year |
||||||||||
| As Maine West's second year, 1980-61, comes to a close, Student Council looks back at a highly successful year. In a recent evaluation council listed 70 projects in which it had taken a major part. Under the capable leadership of John Hanck, president; and Miss Joyce Buck, sponsor; three of council's more well known projects, V-Show, Homecoming, and Election Week, were successfully carried out. Homecoming, possibly the most anticipated event of the year, was a success despite the bad weather. From the parade of floats to the crowning of the queen, it was an event council could be proud of V-Show, which came much later in the year, made a huge profit besides proving a lot of fun for those students who participated and providing good entertainment for over two thousand people. As of the last financial report the net profit from the V-Show was $1035.91, quite a bundle for next year's council to work with. Election week proved to be another council success. A new idea was introduced this year-registering. The new council president for next year is Bruce Johns. Other officers for the new year are Marilyn Manny, secretary; Butch Bending, vice president; and Lora Eckert, treasurer. |
A Student Council Week was held in March to better ac-quaint the student body with the workings of Student Council. Some of the services council has provided for the student body this year are: opening day guides, opening library earlier, emergency signs in classrooms, monitors for open houses, party for hall monitors, hot chocolate machine for student lounge, and a $200.00 welfare fund. Other projects that council was a part of are: Newcomers' party, all elections, Peter Pyrros, parking lot stickers, Honor Study Hall, hall monitors, hosts for Interim fall convention, sponsored mascot, memory record, Leadership Training Week, Thanksgiving Dance, Summer dance, TB drive, is sued charters to Russian and Chem-Physics clubs, sponsored tournament baseball broadcasts, revised eligibility list, put up Maine Way, Elgin-West student exchange, Bundle drive, Camp Cheley representative, Junior High Leadership workshop, and a car wash. All in all, its been a very successful year for the'60-'61 Student Council. Here's wishing next year's council even greater successes. |
