Initiate New Work Program For Maine Senior Students |
||||||||||
| A new work experience program, with an enrollment of 24 seniors, is now functioning at Maine West according to Mr. Gerald Concidine, director. Two credits a year may he earned on this combination plan of work-on-the-job in addition to one period of related work daily with the coordinator. Each student puts in a minimum of three hours on the job and is paid a starting wage equal to the starting pay for the job done. Mr. Concidine visits the places of employment and checks on the quality of work being done by the trainee. The training program of the student is checked also to make sure that he is actually being trained and not just hired to do the undesirable job wherever he happens to be. Students under this program are David Bergman, Prell Body shop; William DeWald, Prince Castle; Ron Frank, Koize Service station; Denise Gielow, Joe Hess, Mickey Hirsch, Kathie Lewis, Millie Stangle, Ginny Stephens, Mary Lou Wolter, and Sandy Zick, Photo Service; |
Charles Guthrey, Des Plaines Journal; Ronald Held, Des Plaines Publishing company; Beverly Latala, Bambas & Company; Ken Overland, Overland Balling company; Hon Prochnow, Ace Hardware; Dan Przybyiski Singer Sewing Machine company; Jerry Richards, Sacks Drugs; Jacqueline Rubasch, Aetna Insurance company; Bob Schlichting, Gerrard & Company; Jack Tierney, Ladendorf Motors; Irma Tiedmann, Butler Brothers; Joe Tersten, Hickory Meat market; and Stan Woods, Henrici's. The advantages of this program are that it offers an opportunity to receive some specific occupational training while attending school, and enables students to make an intelligent choice of their life's work sooner. This program is also set up to encourage more young people to remain in their home community after completing high school. The Board of Education and the administration feel that the many advantages to the student, school, community, employers, and labor in this program adequately justify it. |
