Maine West Can Have A Foreign Exchange Student

Why doesn't Maine West have a foreign exchange student? Other schools do. Do we care? Other schools do. Are we just not interested? Other schools are. Why then, when we can point to so many advantages we have at this expensive new school, have we forgotten to include a foreign exchange student among our assets?

How could we finance a project of this type? Could we afford it? Other schools have. How could we raise the 600 dollars needed per year to support a foreign exchange student? Could we find a family willing to house the student?

In truth, all of the above questions are secondary. The important factor involved is whether there is enough interest and enthusiasm for a project of this type. If the interest and enthusiasm are there, the other problems will solve themselves. There are many reputable agencies available to help us carry through a project of this type.
One might ask, "How do we know that the student we get will be of good caliber?" Such a question is logical, but also quickly answered. All applicants to become an exchange student are carefully and meticulously screened. Only a very select minority of the thousands of applicants are accepted. This is to insure that the student selected will be a good representative of his respective country and as beneficial to the school as possible.

Is it worth it? Do we want the added prestige of a foreign exchange student? Do we care? Other schools do. Are we just not interested? Other schools are. With the backing of the school and community, such a project can successfully be undertaken.

Exchange students add prestige. They add interest and variety to the school atmosphere. They promote good will. Do we promote good will? What are your opinions? Why doesn't Maine West have a foreign exchange student?
