| Pegasus Club The smell of sawdust, the cry of "trot on," and the exciting rhythm of four hooves in perfect cadence will fill the heads of Pegasus club members as they ride again this year. This club is open to any member of Maine West, and riding will be at Idle Hour stables every Monday. Dues of $2 per week include bus transportation to and from the stable. The club's highlight of the year is the horse show which gives each rider a chance to prove his or her ability before a live audience. Mrs. Jeanine Jekel, biology teacher, is sponsor, and will answer questions about the club in room A-109. Pep Club "Hail to thee the Blue, Gold, and White," already are familiar words heard at football games this fall. Leading this song will be the members of one of Maine West's largest organized groups, "Pep club." Cookie Lavine, '61, Barb Novak, '61, Diana Raphael, '61, and Linda Harris, '62, are this year's officers. Marilyn Binder, '61, Carolyn Moller, '61, Pat DeKreek, '61, Karen David '61, Barb Larsen, '63, and Rita Gardino, '61, make up the executive board for Pep club. Gymkana Club Trampoline and tumbling are the main activities of the newly formed Gymkana club. |
Open to all boys and girls, this organization will meet every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in B-wing gym. Under the supervision of Miss Barbara Bovemeyer and Mr. Sidney Drain, students will be taught tricks on the trampoline and tumbling mats, hand balancing, synchronized calisthenics, and side horse vaulting. Designed to be an exhibition group, gymnasts will perform half-time exhibitions in conjunction with the band at basketball games. During May the club will participate in a large spring show with the physical education classes. Future Teachers of America The three R's seem to have changed a bit, from reading and 'riting and 'rithmetic to readin' and readin' and readin'. Sharon Blume and Kay Lons, by, seniors; Bill Gundelach and Dave MacDonald, juniors; all members of the Future Teachers of America, attended a September 20 faculty meeting through the kind invitation of Mr. Herman L. Rider. The meeting featured Dr. Paul Witty, reading expert of Northwestern University, who spoke on "Developmental Reading for the High school." Announced as officers at a recent FTA meeting were: president, Sharon Blume, senior; vice-president, Nancy Tatge, senior; secretary, Sue Madeley, senior; treasurer, Lana Jeppe, senior; and historian Carole Koscal, junior. A movie is scheduled for the next meeting, October 19. All students who are interested or think they may be interested in teaching are urged to come to this meeting. |
