West Nips Glenbrook Falls
To W. Proviso

West's varsity gridders were toppled, 19-14, last Friday, at Maine East, before a home crowd. This defeat evens up the Warrior record in the Interim conference at one win, one loss. Their over-all record is two and one.

Tomorrow at 6 p.m., the Warriors journey to Prospect to meet the undefeated, first place Knights.

The Proviso contest resembled the Warriors other two games, Peoria and Glenbrook, as it found the Westmen behind in the late stages of the game. The difference, of course, being that the Warrior ran out of time, in losing their first match of the season. Maine almost did pull the game out of the fire, as they drove to the Panther 35-yard line with two minutes left to play. But on the next play, they lost the ball on a fumble.

Maine kicked off to Proviso and stopped the Panther on their own 47 yard line. The first play from scrimmage found Dugaw, a Proviso halfback, breaking away to the Warrior 13. But there West stiffened, holding Proviso to five yards in four tries, in squelching the Panther threat. Then, seemingly out of trouble, the Warriors made the first of their costly fumbles, with Proviso recovering it on the eight. On third down, with ten yards to go for a
touchdown, the Panther quarterback, Soo, found Dugaw in the end zone for the TD. The try for point was no good, and the Panthers led, 6-0.

With good blocking, Keith Connolley smashed his way to the Proviso eight yard line. But the Panther line also stiffened, as the Warriors gave up the ball on downs. However, Proviso on second down, fumbled in the end zone with Warrior Keith Zolla falling on it to knot the score at six all. This didn't last long as West's kicking specialist, Chuck Badalamenti, booted the pigskin through the ahead at the quarter, 7-6.

Most of second quarter's action came toward the end of the period. Proviso took possession of the ball on the Maine West 38-yard line. They drove to the 11, where they were temporarily halted. But, on fourth down, with 10 to go for a first down, and 11 for a TD, Soo hit his target on the one-yard line, giving the Panthers a first down. Soo went over for the score on the next play putting Proviso ahead again, 12-7. The extrapoint try was good, and Proviso led by six points, 13-7.

In the third quarter, West went :ahead as Dave Larson bulled over from the one, for the tally, tying the score. Bedalamenti's kick was perfect and West led, 14-13. This lead, however, was short-lived, as Dugaw and company pushed over for the decisive touchdown, making the final score Proviso West 19, Maine West 14.
