Harriers Paste Barrington, 24-31

Extending their record to three wins and one loss, Maine West's varsity harriers recently downed two opponents and lost to another. Proviso West's Panthers won 19-38, although the Warriors came back to trounce Waukegan 9-42, and to squeak past Barrington, 24-31.

Tomorrow the thinclads have a dual meet at Glenbrook, followed by a meeting with northwest suburban Palatine at the Palatine course. The Palatine aggregation recently "skunked" Barrington, 15-43, by placing five runners before the Broncos were able to send a man through the chute. A 15-point score (low score wins) in cross country is a shutout.

Running last year's Interim cross country champion team at Proviso West, Ed Stedman was the first Warrior across the tape, taking second place in a quick time of 10:54 on the Panther's two mile
course. The other West harriers in the top ten finishers included Sig (11:24) Weiler in seventh position, Frank (11:33) Schwartz in eighth place, and Paul (11:37) Eisenbacher in ninth. Proviso had seven of the top places.

In the romp over Waukegan, 16 Warrior thinclads placed ahead of the Bulldog's fifth man. Stedman held first with a time of 11:08, followed by Schwartz in second place. Eisenbacher took fourth, Vie Oakley fifth, Sig Weiler seventh, Mike Canar eighth, Lee Wolf ninth, and Wayne Roberts tenth. Other placers included Warriors Don Seagren, Wil Battles, Bob Jonas, Bruce Berlet, Ed Luzietti, Bill Crowden, Bill Sloss, and Pedro Martinez. There were a total of 42 runners who finished the meet.

Tuesday's meet after school with Barrington was tight as both schools had five men in the 10 top positions.
