WEST'SPORTS

Girls (or interested boys), have you heard about GAA Intramural swimming? It takes place every Tuesday and Thursday night from 3:15 to 4:30. You do not have to be a GAA member, but you have to be a girl. We offer free swimming and instruction on diving or other swimming skills.

Also, for you girls interested in competitive swimming, we are entering some of our girls in the Illinois Girls' high school Postal Swim meet. If you are interested see Miss Pierce, the sponsor of swimming, or the sportheads, Jeanne Franzen and Mary Canar.

Life guards are the following: junior and senior girls who are certified Senior Life Savers: Karen Barrett, Nancy Herzog, Karen Kautz, Barb Manny, Ruth Meyer, Lynn Ruark, Joan Tippereiter, Diane Voltz, and Midge Wolfram.

West's junior-varsity gridders ran up an 18-0 halftime lead over Proviso West last Friday, and held that score the rest of the game to win. This victory evens up the Warriors conference record at one and one, plus one tie.
Tomorrow night at 6 p.m., the JV's take the field against a strong Prospect eleven, at Prospect.

Maine's sophomore squad did equally as well, as the sophomores trounced a visiting Glenbard East team 20-0, last Saturday, but the freshmen were toppled by the first year students from Glenbard East, 14-0, also last Saturday.

Varsity football mentor, Ken Olson, commented on last Friday's defeat to Proviso, "We were hurt by injuries during the contest. Keith Connolly, Dan Humay, and Rich Samlow, were all sick during the week and couldn't practice as much as they should have."

The Westerner's two sports editors, Al Wankat and Ed Stedman, attended a meeting of the interim Conference sports writers Wednesday evening. The purpose of this get-together was to provide a means for the sports department of each school to collect and send to other Interim schools, information covering the athletics at their respective schools.

The Warriors little harriers (frosh-soph) lost a tough dual meet to Barrington, Tuesday, 28-29, on West's course. Ron Erdman was Maine's first finisher as he copped third place in 10:25.
