Harriers Outrun Glenbrook Varsity

The Warrior varsity harriers won one meet while losing two during the past two weeks. After defeating Glenbrook, they were trounced by Palatine and edged out by East Leyden.

In the most recent meet, last Tuesday, West's cross-country team was barely nosed out by Leyden East, 28-29, even though there were six warriors in the top ten. Those who received points were E. Stedman (10:41.5) first, Vic Oakley (11:08) fifth, Paul Eisenbacher (11:09) sixth, Frank Schwartz (11:12) eigth, Lee Wolf (11:14) ninth, Sig Weller (11:15) tenth, Mike Canar (11:19) eleventh, Wil Battles (11:28) twelfth, Bob Jonas (11:28) thirteenth, and Bruce Johns (11:28) fourteenth ..........
At Palatine the Warriors were saved from a whitewash by Vic Oakley. This junior took fifth with a time of 9:17. He was the only Maine West runner to finish in front of Palatine's fifth man .

....Warrior harriers whipped Glenbrook, 25-34, when seven of West's thinclads finished in the top 10. Stedman was the first of the thinclads squad to cross the finish line. He took second with a time of 10:17. Other point-winners were Frank Schwartz (10:21) third, Oakley (10:31 fifth, Eisenbacher (10:41) seventh, Wolf (10:44; eighth, Sig Weller (10:44) ninth, Canar (10:46) tenth, Jonas (11:00) eleventh, and Wil Battles (11:03) thirteenth ................

The West cross-country record is now four wins against three lossses. There is only one meet remaining in the season. This is an away contest at Prospect on Tuesday.
