Schools Take Vets' Day Off |
||||||||||
| Forty-two years ago, November 11, 1918, at 11:00 am., the Allied and German armies met in Northern France to declare an end to fighting in World War I. This day, known as Armistice Day, is now called Veterans' Day. To the students at Maine West, it means a holiday, a chance to catch up on sleep, or a long weekend of fun. To many men it means suffering, the loss of life and physical health. It also means preservation of American liberty and greatness. |
World War II and the Korean conflict also came along to remind the free people that freedom is costly. This is why we have Veterans' Day - to honor heroes. |
