Teaching Career for Barb;
Bruce Unopposed Candidate
During the summer months Barb Manny, GAA president, can almost always be found at the nearest lake sailing her family's 20 foot cat boat. She has taught sailing for two years at a private girls' camp, and has also been in two western
Michigan regattas. Barb, also active in many other sports, has been a member of GAA for the past four years. This has helped her prepare for a future career in physical education. Her tentative plans concerning college are to major in physical education and minor in physical therapy at the University of Iowa.
When asked where she'd like to teach, Barb smiles and says, "Maybe I'll come back here to Maine West and give the kids as hard a time as I had. If they squawk about taking showers, I'll just say, 'Showers are not only for brides.'
In between school, doing homework, and working on Student Council and Girls' club council, Barb still finds time to be a waitress at the toll road Oasis. Her favorite food (?) is "hot Metrecal ala mode," but it's rather doubtful whether its served at Fred Harvey's.
Getting out of school three days early last June to visit a mid-shipman at Annapolis is the high spot in Barb's memory. She attended three formals plus a lot of other exciting activities in the five days she was there. "I stayed at a house with 30 other girls, and was kept so busy by my date, that I didn't even get a chance to think," she reported.
Another one of her executive jobs is being president of Mainliners' Tri Hi Y. This is a club associated with the YMCA for high school girls.
Dear Voters:
As you probably know, our candidate for Under Secretary of State is the present Under Under Secretary of State, Bruce Schellin. We would like to inform you of his qualifications.
This ambitious lad started his secondary education at Maine high school in 1957. Among his many accomplishments and activities were German club, Student Council, band, Quill and Scroll society, sports writer and Morfit columnist for the school papers, football, and tennis. At an early age he showed a liking for social science and made his hobby keeping up-to-date on affairs of government.
His most ambitious undertaking during his career on the Council was working to "make a better understanding between the administration and the students." Mr. Schellin has had invaluable experience as Organizations chairman of the Council. Nothing riles our candidate more than "kids who rap Student Council without knowing much about how it is run, and Council members who do not live up to their requirements."
In June, Bruce was graduated from Maine West. He soon put his acquired ability to voice his opinions to use.
Mr. Schellin was elected Commissioner of Manholes in 1966 which started him on the rise to political power. After eight years as Commissioner, he was appointed Under Under Secretary of State.
We sincerely hope that you will give this man your vote when you go to the polls.
Expectantly yours,
Members of the Fink Party
