| Added to the student services this year has been an office of career counselor. Mr. Alfred Cochrane, who is devoting full time to this job, is located in the Personnel office. In his office there is available a large selection of college catalogs. He also has many books on different vocational fields. "This year I plan to talk to all the seniors to discuss the material available in my office and the library, reported Mr. Cochrane. "In order to learn more about each student, I have them fill out a questionnaire about their future plans." Already Mr. Cochrane has helped with such projects as the naval scholarship program for those interested. He deals with applications to colleges, choices of colleges or vocational fields, scholarships, and loan information. "I hope to help students learn more about themselves so that they can make the best possible choice for their futures," added the counselor. |
Experience Varied "I spent my early life in Aurora, Illinois, and attended West Aurora high school," reminisced Mr. Cochrane. "Northern Illinois University was my college choice, and I received my MS degree in earth science and my MA in guidance counseling. I also served in the Army for two years." Next he taught seventh and eighth grades at Franklin Park school. "I taught just about everything in the curriculum there," he laughed. "Four years ago," he explained, "I began teaching science at Maine. I feel that now my time is devoted to a subject for which I have a great interest - that is educational counseling for upperclassmen. Students who would like my help on their vocational or educational planning should make an appointment to see me in my office," concluded Mr. Cochrane. |
