| .Junior Tycoon... Dave MacDonald, '62, a determined journalist, has an enviable record of accomplishments. This 5 foot-10 inch brown-haired and brown-eyed lad has made a gold mine of printing. In an unpretentious air, Dave emitted, "For three years I've owned and operated my own Cumberland Print shop. My biggest client is the American Gas association." Dave's business transactions with Lloyds of London, a distinguished British insurance company, is evidence of his superior ability in the art. Aiding his enterprise are 20 cases of type and an air conditioned shop. This efficient fellow originally engaged in rubber stamp printing. Illustrating his commendable progress, is his present, 1,500 pound lead type printing press. Dave's real interest stems from Algonquin junior high's Production club, an organization which printed the "Pencil Point Press." ...Welcome, Ann... "Just about the only thing at Maine West that is different from my school in |
Toronto," began Ann Bossen, '62, "is that it's much easier. In Toronto I would have gone to high school for 5 years; the last is like the first year of college here." Ann carried eight subjects, had no study periods, and amazing as it may seem, worked only half an hour on homework each night, and that's including all subjects! If students had a 66 per cent average on their tests, they did not have to take final exams. School was so difficult, that 50 per cent was passing! Ann has lived in Des Plaines for six months and likes it very much. ..Celebrities in our Midst... Seventeen West Mainites, among them Tern Doremus, '64; Suzi Drake, '64; Jill DuClos, '64; and Suzy Wells, '61; were on hand to greet Ed Sullivan and his wife when they arrived at O'Hare International airport, Tuesday, October 25. When he arrived at gate A-2, Mr. Sullivan signed autographs and conversed with those around him. Suzy Wells and Jill DuClos had the privilege of walking arm and arm with him while motion pictures, which will be shown Sunday on the Ed Sullivan show, were being taken. |
